Opening  for 2009

After almost two years of turmoil, including two new knees, I am back in the garden and working harder than ever.  My grandson and I have cleared the chaos of the last two seasons in time for opening and the garden looks quite rejuvenated and a little different.

This year I am supporting the Air Ambulance and the Brooke hospital for animals instead of the NGS.

I am certainly enjoying this season as the last one was a struggle from start to finish with my knee replacements and the rain.

I'm happy to say that my granddaughter is running The Stables Tearoom this year at weekends, Bank Holidays and by appointment. www.stablestearoom.co.uk

It is a pleasure to welcome returning and new visitors and I hope that you will enjoy your visit.

Charis Ward, April 2009

Abbey Dore Court Garden is open between April and September.

The Garden will be open every weekend (including Bank Holidays) until the end of September between 11am and 5.00pm. It is also open most other days. However, if you are traveling from a distance, please call first on 01981 240419 to confirm that we will be open.

Groups are always welcome but must make a prior booking.

Please call Charis Ward on 01981 240419

When to visit

In February, March and April, hellebores flower throughout the garden. One border is devoted to doubles, anemone centred, picotees and some named varieties. Pulmonarias and geraniums are also beginning with new seedlings appearing every year.

The start of May sees the specie paeonia followed by paeonia lactiflora which will last well into July.

Throughout June, July and August, the many herbaceous perennials take over. Important among them are astrantia, papaver and helenium.

In August agapanthus, grasses and crocosmia are at their best, followed by a large collection of colchicum.

This is just a very small selection of my favourite plants. There are also unusual herbaceous perennials, shrubs and bulbs everywhere whilst clematis flower all summer making this a garden for all months.
